Pottsy perhabs you should consider using the “extra menu” for your books?

When I look at your page your menues continue at next line and cover for the text you have in the top (sitting at my notebook)

Like I did (I putted my pages in the extra menu) Instead of having alot of menues in the menu bar! My page is here: http://www.jaconelli.dk/webtrees – look at the 3rd menu from right (having even more link to pages in danish language)

I was able to enable the books (simpl_pages) to get the URL then hide them from everyone to get them out of the main menu.

I thought I would try putting Stories under the same Extra Menu but the same logic didn’t work. When I enable and hide Stories the link doesn’t show under the Extra Menu.

Should I give up or am I doing something wrong?

It works fine for me, so yes, you must be doing something wrong. What link did you try for “Stories”? There are two you could use:
1 – The link to the “Stories list” page (module.php?mod=stories&mod_action=show_list) or
2 – Links to individual story tabs. These are actually links to individual pages.
    (like: individual.php?pid=I5510#stories)

Check your language settings for the individual stories. They might be at odds with the menu settings.
Then check that the individual the story is connected to can be viewed by the same people your are giving access to the menu (i.e. a story attached to a “private” individual will never appear on the menu to public visitors.)

Regarding my earlier suggestions for verdana font, I can see from your site you haven’t followed that. Instead you have done the worst possible thing and physically changed the core theme’s style.css file. There is never any reason or logic for doing that. Use only mystyle.css.

You have also added a font-family setting to a ‘p’ element on some pages. Again, no logic for that. It just adds complication and slows page loading. Set the font-family at the highest possible level (body) in mystyle.css.

Thanks Nigel. I’ll follow your recommendations. I used the p because I was trying to understand how it all works. I’ll take it out. I changed the style.css temporarily because I wanted to see what the change should look like if I got the mystyle correct. I also notice my html has a lot of

tags which don’t need to be there so I am tidying that up too. Cheers.

I set it up with both links just to test. Then made sure it was dead people and all languages selected.

To get simpl_pages to show in the extra menu but not in the main menu I hide the menu item from all users but enable the module. Then add a link in the Extra menu list. – This works

If I hide the stories menu it only shows in the Extra menu when logged in – good. All other show options put the stories link in both the main menu and the Extra menu. eg show to visitors shows the the stories link in both main and extra menus when not logged in.

I want it in the Extra menu only if possible.

So from what you have said it is working OK. Either that or these two sentences contradict each other:

If I hide the stories menu it only shows in the Extra menu when logged in – good.

I want it in the Extra menu only if possible.

Or do you really mean you want it only in the Extra Menu AND you want it visible to non-logged in viewers?

    Yes 🙂

If I don’t mark it as visible to non-logged in users it doesn’t show in the individuals tab either and I want that too.

All I am trying to do is make it so that if I put Stories in the Extra menu I can remove it from the main menu. This works with the simpl_pages but the logic for the two is obviously different.

Damn! Got it. I didn’t set the permission on the individual menu item as visible to all. Sorry for the trouble. 🙁
