Nigel:
Did read the materials but only had turned off what were usually/previously been add-on modules.
This is really an impressive upgrade and you obviously put in many hours of work. Have had a some time to briefly explore the changes and they are very effective. I was uncomfortable about the loss of the Mypage but the widget concept is an effective replacement. I really like it and now have to get my users up to speed using it, Administrators will definitely have to take some time to understand the many configuration possibilities. Using my local wamp setup, I am not sure but 3.0 seems much faster too. Another nice change; the new Tree View is going to be a great replacement for at least one report.
On this set up, I did have a couple errors when doing some configuration changes but the blocks/modules themselves are working perfectly. Some widget configuration changes didn’t seem to take either. I will explore those things later when I get home and work with my live site. Looking forward to that and springing this on my users.
Really great job!! Thanks for all the hard work.

My upgrade failed.
I followed recommended upgrade procedure{Unzip the .ZIP file, and upload the files to your web server, overwriting the existing files.}
When opening the kiwitrees site the page looks like on the attached screenshot – no menu items but Gallery.

The email newsletter included a link to this site’s “Upgrading” page. That has very detailed instructions about specific issues relate to upgrading to kiwitrees 3.0.0. Did you read those?

At my historic database I get this issue when I try to manage modules:
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class user_favorites_WT_Module in /home/h/o/ftp_host-sidendk/webtrees/modules_v3/widget_favorites/module.php on line 330
Also got it at the test database – but it suddenly worked. I have no idea how
That’s easy. The user_favorites module is redundant and in part copied by the widget_favorites version.
By visiting the admin page you triggered the system to delete the old one and so removed the duplication.

I have had a look at that site.
The issue is that you have a LOT of modules that are not enabled, including some that the “Default” blocks are trying to load. You also have some key menu modules not enabled, so you have, for example, no languages or admin page links. To get to the admin page I needed to manually add “admin.php” to your URL.
So you need to go to Administration > Modules > Mange modules . There I recommend for now that you enable ALL modules. That will get everything working. you can disable some later if you prefer, but wait until you have sorted out the layout of your menus and the widget bar first.
BUT – on the subject of setting “Default blocks”. Do you realise that this option ONLY sets them for NEW family trees. It does not change the blocks for any existing family trees. Those need to be set by using the link “Change the blocks on this page” on the Home page.
ALSO – on your Home page you currently have a pedigree chart in the lower-right small block. This doesn’t really work. I pedigree chart can never fit a small block like that. It is no different to putting it in the small right-side blocks on other themes.

Sorry Nigel, I read it but very shallowly, my fault.
My initial problem was that I could not find the login button, so I called …/admin.php to get to administration.

Thats OK. This is a more complicated upgrade than usual. Now that you have reached the admin pages if you look at Modules > Manage modules you will find many are not enabled. I recommend you enable all of them for now. That will get everything working.
Then you can set up your menus as you want them, and your new “widget bar”. Once they all work you can choose to disable some modules if you wish – but it is not necessary.
