I’m not sure if this is the right forum for this question, but I’d appreciate other peoples comments. Is there an easy way to split a family tree into two branches? After 10 years I have decided it will be best to keep my paternal and maternal branches as two separate files since my paternal line forms the basis of a One Name Study, and my maternal ancestors do not (they are more like a One Place Study). Can the Clippings Cart do this, or should I look at other utilities?
    Anyone done this before?

No easy way, but you could either:

1 – Use clippings cart to create two new trees, then remove the original. Not easy.

2 – (my preferred) – try GEDsplit.exe from http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~gumby/ged.html IIts old but shoulld still work. It’s a couple of years since I used it, but not hard once you get the hang of it.

Thanks, Nigel. I’d forgotten about gedsplit.exe and indeed used it on my Windows PC to do the job. Now I’m there … I’m in two minds whether to still go down this route!
