Thats an interesting problem. I don’t have an immediate answer. I’ll give it more thought and get back to you as soon as I can.

What would you want to see done to improve it?
Would it be to include Jensdatter and Jensen as a single group called “Jensen”?
Another question – Do you see that statistic as a count of SURNAMES or a count of FAMILIES?

If I assume you will answer ‘yes’ to that question, then the solution is to amend the name part of each “Jensdatter” person.
Instead of:
1 NAME Ane /Jensdatter/
2 GIVN Ane
2 SURN Jensdatter
you need:
1 NAME Ane /Jensdatter/
2 GIVN Ane
2 SURN JensenYou can either do this by raw GEDCOM edit, or by using the name edit screen (click the icon to edit the “Name” field independently of the surname field). You can probably also do it by the batch update, but it will be complex I’m afraid.
That will do a number of things:
- Her main display name will remain as Ane Jensdatter
- Her surname on her individual page header will be Jensdatter (Jensen)
- The statistics chart will count her as a “Jensen”
- In Lists > Individuals she will appear as both Jensen and Jensdatter (same for general search results)

Yes is the answer to your question.
I have 6000 indis. So im not going to edit all those women 🙁 It would also give an extra edit everytime I add a woman. Because the name will allways take it from surname!
But I was of something like *count names if surname *.daughter concider as *.nothing
But got your idea. Thank you! 🙂

Yes, that would be nice, but other countries have similar issues, but not necessarily the same “rules” so it would start to get very complicated.
It could also be argued that different spellings of the same name. I have people with name Osborne, Osbourne, Osborn, etc due to errors in old documents, changes over time and many other reasons. I have to record them in a similar fashion.
