Wanted to see Sources when logged in as Member. I have privacy set to only show Sources to members. Noticed some displayed while others didn’t. (Example – my own record vs A28933) and spouse. If you log in and look at users, you’ll see one called Member which you can reset and test or via masquerade (?)

I can log in but it looks like I don’t have admin access, so can’t see users.

Sorry. Just reset to admin. I didn’t have ‘follow’ turned on so just seeing this now.

Not quite. You’ve only set me as “Manager”. You need to tick the “Administrator” check box to make me an admin.

Managers can’t see user details, and therefore I can’t masquerade as your “Member” user.

But from what I can see, I don’t think I understand the issue. You have Sources set to “Show to members” , so and one who is set as “Member” (or higher) can see sources. Is that not what’s you expect, or not what you are seeing?

Or is it that your “Member” user isn’t really set as ‘member’ but actually only ‘visitor”? That would make your issue more understandable.

Finally figured out the problem.
Sources are unique from all other records because they have links in two directions.
They link to individuals, families, facts/Events, but also to Repositories.
Repositories are the “parents” of the sources they contain.
The simple analogy is:
repository = library;
sources = the books in the library.
So. if a repository is private, then all of it’s sources have at least the same level of privacy.
In your case you have set Repositories to “Show to managers” and their Sources to “Show to members”. The strictest level and / or the parent always take precedence. So all your sources are actually only “Show to managers” as per their parent.
Only sources NOT linked to a repository will actually be “Show to members.
You can either edit specific repositories and add a RESN tag changing that one to “Show to members”; or you can change the overall setting for all repositories.
Or you could just remove the privacy setting for repositories. Then all sources would follow their own setting.
You should experiment with these settings to indentify what suits your site best.

Set both Source & repository to MEMBER. Was able to view both (not that a member would know about repositories 🙂 Visitor can’t see either.  All is okay.
