Using Colors coffeeandcream theme: thought it was just when selecting an image from Album add so didn’t think much of it. But, now I’m trying again to select the place of burial London “Westminster Abbey”, England and can’t. Literally. The drop down appears and flickers as I mouse down. The selection is last in the list and I cannot click on it. Switched to Xenea (via widget) and it’s not as bad. (Even though the edit window appears still in Colors theme)
Record: Q2393 is the one I’m editing but there were others in similar situation (bottom of list).
The drop down for image selection stabilizes probably because the options for “No image” are 3 and wrap, giving more row height but must wait a few moments before selecting option 3.

Sorry, but I have no idea what any of that means.
Please provide step-by-step instructions to reproduce this.

opened edit window for burial. For place of burial, partially entered westmin… and the dropdown presents me with the options. I scrolled down the list to the last entry for London “Westminster Abbey”, England and tried to click for selection. I couldn’t. The menu flickered and I got the impression I was selecting the place above the one I wanted.
I experience similar behaviour with Album > Link to an existing media option > “no im…” partial entry to present options. (The only time I use this option)
I’m in Colors coffeeandcream theme. From widget I changed to Xenea (it doesn’t fully changeover, edit windows remain in Colors) and found the behaviour not quite as bad.

That’s better, thanks.
Bad news I’m afraid. It works perfectly normally for me, on your site, doing exactly as you describe.
The remaining variable is therefore your machine, and your display settings. As always, not things I can do anything about.

Yes, the theme switching in the widget is only there for you to take a brief look at another theme for testing etc.. It cannot make a permanent of even complete change for anything other than the current window because themes are no longer per user. Widgets are however per user, so there will always be a conflict.

Sad news indeed. Literally cannot select the location. Guess will have to switch back to Xenea (was taking a break to get ideas for colours) and see if that improves more.
Colour switching – wasn’t sure if it was suppose to be that way. Guess option isn’t of value anymore then. In back of my mind is how one would test when setting is via Admin and if “mytheme” is in test mode, how to have stable one in place. But that’s a long way off.

Try kiwitrees theme. It generally uses more modern design elements, especially padding etc in and around data entry fields and anything you need to select or click. Its what needs to happen with all themes to become mobile-friendly. But the effort for really old themes like colors and xenea are too great. More likely I will replace them with something that works better, but still has their overall look / colors / icons etc. But that’s all many months away yet.

Not too hard. Just keep the admin theme setting page open in it’s own tab / window and change the theme there. Then just a quick refresh on your other tab is enough to show the difference.
Alternatively you can just add “&theme=colors” or “&theme=something else” to the end of any url to get an instant look at a page in a different theme.

Yeah, Colors theme does need an overall palette change. The only one I’d use “public” is the coffee and cream. I love pink so am using that for A-D just for fun. But, if someone wants account, I’ll switch 🙂
Xenea uses the fact icons I like. And is easiest for visual accessibility which is the main reason I use it.----- [updated: 31Aug2023]

Xenea uses the fact icons
All themes use fact icons. The only issue is that Xenea is the only one that has any. But you just need to place them in the theme folder by copying xeneas /images/facts folder to the same location in the other theme. Or you can crate the same sub-folder then add your own images. Because they are not included in the core package they will not be deleted or replaced during an upgrade.
And [xenea] is easiest for visual accessibility
It would be very helpful for future theme designs if you could expand considerably on that comment. The better I understand what you find “easiest for visual accessibility ” and why the better I can design new displays. Some detailed comparisons between the things you find easiest in xenea and not in others would be great.

Okay, figured out what’s causing this action. It’s the horizontal scroll bar on the drop downs. When the mouse nears it, the drop down begins to flicker so aiming to the last entry is next to impossible and takes a lot of hit-and-miss attempts.
