My web host upgraded mySQL to 8.0. When I logged back into my site, I couldn’t.

It’s disappointing that any web host should upgrade your database without warning like that.

Currently kiwitrees is not compatible with MySQL 8. I wasn’t planning on changing that before mid- 2022 as there are other priorities.

I can investigate fixing the SQL_CACHE issue as that does not negatively impact any other sites, but I cannot yet tell you what other issues might arise even once that is fixed.

I will try to release a 3.3.10 version of kiwitrees during November with the SQL_CACHE Included.

There is no earlier or simple fix I can offer you. Hopefully your web host can offer a service that uses MySQL 5

If it helps when talking to them, this is the official page from Oracle, developers of MySQL, confirming the end of life for version 5.7 is not until October 2023

I’m in the queue for the mySQL support team but in the meantime, inquired about the upgrade per your information. One year in advance is a bold step to take.
Oh well, I have a season of a TV-show to binge-watch in the meantime.

Good temporary news. Dreamhost found a server that’s last in the queue for upgrading so will move all mySQL databases there. That said, it too will be graded by end of year. No options.

Asked for as much notice as possible so I can find out where you’re at with making kitwiTrees compatible. Quite a predicament. “November” seemed so far off when they sent notice. Should have emailed you immediately and now I’m paying the price.

I have my Reunion offline version that I’m working with. It’s not 100% in sync but doesn’t matter for what I’m doing. For most of the records I’ve recorded the record number (yup, that number you “hate”) so will be easily able to update each record.

They’re to notify me when the move is done.

The move is done. Not sure if there are particular items I should test to make sure all is well but had no problems with login to all four. (only 3 of 4 are in my signature)

Dreamhost replied that move is complete. As mentioned, I’m on borrowed time, literally. They will give ONE WEEK notice before upgrading to mySQL 8 which is sent before year end.

URGENT
Dreamhost just sent notice that on November 16 they’ll be upgrading mySQL on the servers my sites on on. That will make them inaccessible unless kiwitrees supports version 8.

Any headway?

I gather if I put up the “out of order” page it won’t display?

Whew. Just got bit more time. The notice I got for Nov 16 was for mySQL on my other domain that does have an old install of my databases. Still working to ready my active ones to temp directory and do install of test.
