    Nigel,

The words: birth registration and death registration are missing in the en-US.po file.
These words were not translated in the dutch file.

I don’t think they exist in the system at all. Where are you seeing them?

    Nigel,

On the tab fact and events. See printscreen, all is dutch except birth registration and death registration.

OK, now I see. That will be a non-standard (invented) GEDCOM tag from Aldfaer I’m afraid. We don’t try to translate those. They might even be user-created in Aldfaer, but I don’t know.

If you look at the raw GEDCOM data for that record (From the “Edit” menu on that page, select “View rawa GEDCOM data”). You will see what I mean. I would be interested to see what they have done.

GEDCOM has no tag for “birth registration”, only BIRT for Birth. A “birth registration” would normally be a source for the birth event, not an event in it’s own right.

I have translated them by using custom translation.

    2 TYPE birth registration

    Wim

You cannot translate that even with custom translation. The TYPE GEDCOM tag is free-form, for the user to enter anything they like. We can never translate such variables.

Custom translation can only translate the same standard (coded) texts as standard. The purpose is to use a non-standard translation of existing texts only.

As mentioned earlier, the correct use of a birth registration is as a source for the birth event, not as an event in its own right.

    Nigel,

For the word stillborn it is the same as birth registration?

    Wim

  • #6129

No, “stillborn” means “born dead”, in other words the child had died in the womb.

    Nigel,

    1 BIRT
    2 TYPE stillborn

If I want to translate this, change the word in the GEDCOM?

    Wim
