This is a trivial problem but I thought I should raise it in case there are other consequences that I have not yet detected. This has now happened to me three times whilst I am configuring/customising 3.0.0, but I don’t know how to reproduce the situation:

I click on ‘Change the blocks on this page’ at the bottom of the Home Page and the usual window appears with the three Blocks sections: Main .. – Available .. – Right Section …, but all three are empty. I wait, but they remain empty. Then I notice that ‘Widgets’ appears at the left of the menu items at the top of the page, although this is not normally the case on the Home Page. I click on the Home Page menu icon, the page refreshes, this time without ‘Widgets’ in the menu, and now the Change Blocks function works as it should. I have tried various ways to recreate the situation but can never manage to generate a Home Page with Widgets in the menu. But as I have said, it has happened at least three times without my knowing how I arrived there.

Let me please include here a question on another, even more trivial, Home Page Blocks matter. In the Most Common Surnames block, several names appear in lower case, whereas all the others are in Block Capitals. This is still the case even if I select ‘Display names in all CAPS’ in Admin< Family Trees< (My Tree) <Layout<Names. Is there any way I can change this?

Just happened again (Home Page generated with Widgets menu) and this time it was definitely the first page displayed after login (whereas, normally, the first page displayed after login is my individual page). So it would appear that – for some reason – login sometimes generates the Home Page and not the individual page – and when it does the ‘Change Blocks..’ function does not work as it should.

Pattern established. The Home Page with widget menu item is only generated by the first login after opening the browser (I’m using Chrome). All subsequent logins generate the user’s individual page. Close browser and open again, and first login produces the ‘Widget Home Page’ every time.

In your user account settings, do you have ‘Default user’ and ‘Individual record’ set to valid records? That could be one cause, though I suspect not in this case.

The “Home page with widgets’ display you are seeing is actually the old “My page”. It was never a separate page in reality. It was just the Home page with a different set of blocks. Hence why everyone found it so confusing. It appears there are still some remnants of links that try to open that version of the page. It will be empty because there are now no ‘my page’ blocks to load.

If you can reproduce this, can you give me the full URL of the page you land on. It should help me trace the incorrect link.

Re you question about names in CAPS can you raise a separate topic so we can keep focussed on one thing at a time. I only have a simple one-track mind, as my wife is always telling me 🙂

Yes – default and Individual record settings in user account valid records.

The URL of the ‘Home Page with Widgets’ is the URL of my ‘normal’ Home Page: http://www.clan-davies.org/webtrees/

However, at present – due to the problem dealt with under the forum thread ‘HTML Block Problem’ you will not be able to see anything there except my original HTML Block.

I’ll raise the other question as a separate topic – I always try to combine things which should be kept apart (as MY wife keeps telling me!)

Are you sure it hasn’t got “$ctype=’user'” in it somewhere?

Can you try replacing your webtrees theme file header.php with the one in the attached zip folder a let me know if it helps.
