The german translation is pretty good, but still not perfect.
Any germans here? Here we go…

Falls du deutsch sprichst und dich für die deutsche Übersetzung von kiwitrees interessierst, dann kommentiere doch bitte die Übersetzungsideen oder poste hier deine eigenen Verbesserungsvorschläge. Ab und an sollten wir dann die entsprechenden Files de.po und de.mo updaten und Nigel schicken, damit er sie einbauen kann. Ich kann das übernehmen, möchte mich aber nicht festlegen, wann und in welchen Zeitabständen ich dazu komme. Vielleicht mag das ja auch jemand anders machen?

Original: “Card” und “Map”
Gegenwärtige Übersetzung: “Karte” und “Karte”
Kommentar: 2x Karte ist nicht unterscheidbar
Verbesserungsvorschlag: “Karte” und “Landkarte”

Original: “Married name” und “Married surname”
Gegenwärtige Übersetzung: “Ehename” und “Name nach der Ehe”
Kommentar: Ehename bezieht sich als feststehender Fachbegriff immer nur auf den Nachnamen. “Nach der Ehe” klingt so, als wäre die Ehe schon vorbei, gemeint ist ja wohl nach der Eheschließung.
Verbesserungsvorschlag: “Vollständiger Ehename” und “Ehename”

Original: “Add to favorites”
Gegenwärtige Übersetzung: “zu Favoriten hinzufügen”
Kommentar: “favorites” werden sonst überall als Lesezeichen übersetzt, im Lesezeichen-Block der Homepage, im Menü usw. Vereinheitlichen.
Verbesserungsvorschlag: “Lesezeichen hinzufügen”

Just a couple of comments on #1.
If I use Google to translate Verbesserungsvorschlag: “Karte” und “Landkarte” It gives me Suggestion: "map" and "map" 🙂

In English a better description of “card” would be “index card”. Attached is an image of what it means. Perhaps that will help find a better translation? Google tells me that “Index-karte” would be the simple translation.

“Map” is of course the same meaning as in “Google Maps”.

Some more comments (from an English=speaking perspective)
#4. “Basic”
Yes, that is clearly a mistake by a previous translator.

#5. If I use Google to translate “zu Favoriten hinzufügen” it gives me “Add to favorites”.

If I give it “Lesezeichen hinzufügen”, the translation is “Add bookmark”.

So perhaps the bigger question is for the original English word. Should it be “Favorite” or “Bookmark”. I think fashion has changed, and ‘bookmark’ is now more commonly used on the web perhaps? That could be an interesting debate.

In webtrees, are these links to “bookmarks” or are they to “favorite people” ?

You are the GEDCOM expert and the native speaker.
If card means exclusively index-card then the translation should be “Karteikarte”.

In german Lesezeichen is the common word in context of www.

Favorit is still used by IE and it really sounds like old-fashioned Microsoft-slang. Maybe it’s the same thing in english and wt should update to booksmarks 🙂

Yes, I believe that index-card is it’s true meaning. Remember that most of these object “types” come from the GEDCOM specification which is now quite old. So it also includes “microfiche”. These are from the days most research was done in libraries.

These links in webtrees are mainly used to provide quick links to individuals or families. Most people use them for their “favourite”, most interesting, or most important individuals. I am just asking if that is the same thing as a www “bookmark” or perhaps it is something more specific to a family tree?

But if not, then I agree that we should consider changing to “bookmark” throughout the system. I would happily remove anything that reminds me of Microsoft 🙂
But I am not sure we should make the change different for each language – better for something like this it is all languages or none.

In german Lesezeichen is fine for external links and internal bookmarking.
It catches the spirit.

And: Lesezeichen is already used everywhere in wt (block on my webtrees/homepage and menu). The block is named Lesezeichen and at the bottom of the block it is “Neues Lesezeichen hinzufügen”, the menu is called Lesezeichen, only the last menu item is called “Zu Favoriten hinzufügen”. Obviously this decision has been taken some time ago and i guess german users are used to it. So we shouldn’t rewind everything to oldstyled “Favoriten”, better rename the isolated and confusing menu item.

Looks like no other comments or objections, so if you would like to update a .po file and send it to me I’ll see these changes are included in the next release – which I aim to get out next week.
