There is a gap between the Extra menus menu icon and the “Edit menus” in that you cannot click on the “Edit menus”. Going through the module admin to turn on/off and see what item does.

You need to actually add a menu item to it first.

But don’t I need to click Edit Menus and get a new menu to edit? I checked your FAQs to see if there’s instructions but there isn’t.

It’s optional. Normal method is Administration > Tools > extra menus.

Got the button labelled but no explanation of how to add menu item and assign an “action”. Or exactly what the feature does, I guess is what I’m wondering.

What does any menu item do?

That’s just it, it doesn’t do anything but take me to the Admin > Edit menus page. I named the button and when hovering, it displays Edit Menus.

    You didn’t answer my question.
Q – “What does any menu item do?”
A – All menus navigate to somewhere.

So if you don’t tell a menu where to take you, of course it will do nothing.

still playing with this one. getting a menu item but not menu icon name. thought level 0 would be the menu icon name then level 1 the first menu item.

    No.

Each item is a menu is in effect a sub-menu (just all the rest of the standard menus). The system will however use the first one (whatever is the lowest ID number) as the main menu label and link, again, just the same as the standard menus.

Every menu must have a title and a link. It really is no more complex than that. Add a menu – give it a title, give it a link address and save. Perhaps you are trying to over-think it. Don’t forget, I did always call the add-ons “simpl_”.
