Forgot how to invoke the CA so went to your FAQ. My window doesn’t look like yours — note the date option isn’t there. Seem to recall Shared Note is suppose to ask me if I want to use the CA, it doesn’t have any mention. This is the new, clean install.
Logged into The Royals and tried there. I see”Census Date” option there.
I used the exact same unzipped file. Royals is Colors, A-D is Xena. So switched. Made no difference.

It’s a module. Have you enabled it? (Administration > Modules > Manage modules > Census Assistant)
Or – does it exist? (thinking of your upload issues). Look for /modules_v3/GedFact assistant/ Compare contents with your other site.

Ah, it’s been sometime since I activated, so forgot. Maybe add note to the FAQ 🙂
It’s working. If you review contents, I didn’t see year of birth which to me, I would rather note than month of birth.

Already done 🙂

Sorry, I don’t understand this comment. Can you explain?

I see Bmth (1880, 1870) and see Mmth (1870) but not a place for year of birth which is on the census as “Birth Date” and gives month, year (if known)

Sorry to seem dim, but I still have no idea what you are looking at?
Guessing a census template, but which Country / Year? Every combination is different, to match the original documents.

One was 1870 Marshalltown, Marshall County, Iowa, USA where the CA asks for month of birth (Bmth) but not year.
Other was 1880 Maryland, same thing.
I’m using ancestry.com that gives a “recap” of the entry for individual in addition to option for viewing actual census page. The 1870 “recap” (not sure what to call it, shows
Name: William Battin

OK, so you mean the USA 1870 template.
You have misunderstood the purpose of the templates.
They are to allow you to add your own formatted transcription of the original census page, not a transcription of someone else’s transcription (due to potential doubling of transcription errors).
The column you refer to is col. 13 on the original census page. It’s correct text describing it, at the top of the page, says:
“If born within this year, which month (Jan, Feb, etc)” or words to that effect. So you would very rarely use this column, except for children under 1 yr old. The original page has nowhere to record date of birth otherwise; just age at last birthday in years. The next column is similar but for date married “If married within this year, which month (Jan, Feb, etc)”
If you just want to use Ancestry’s transcription (and I often do for other types of data) just copy / paste it into a ‘normal’ blank shared (or simple) note rather than the Census Assistant modified shared note.
