I have been using Census Assistant for my American individuals and noticed a number of issues such as not being able to select a person for the 1830 & 1840, and 20th century details overlapping the side bar (example below). Just wondering whether these were addressed during work on 3.0.0

No, it isn’t. I hadn’t realised it was happening , though I should have as I use the feature constantly/
It isn’t just those census years, or even necessarily just census fact. It depends on screen width and can cause an issue with any fact. It is just more likely to present with those longer census shared notes.
I will see if I can fix it before I release 3.0.0. It is probably worth another couple of days for this.

I find adding later USA census a daunting task so have not much done so, but I recently got a month of access to FindMyPast worldwide for £1 so thought I’d have a go. I found a work-round for the 1830/1840 but then ran into the width issue otherwise I would have alerted you earlier!

I’ve had a go at fixing this today, but unsuccessfully. I should also say it’s not the first time I’ve tried either. I did have a fix for it in my ‘simpl_grey’ theme, but that only worked because the entire theme was premised on an absolutely fixed display width. I can marginally improve the display, but any fix in this code will only generate other problems.
So I don’t think there is an easy fix for now. Ultimately it will require a well needed re-think of the entire presentation of the individual “facts & events tab”, and in particular the way we display large census transcriptions.
One thought I have is to change from open/close for the source / note / shared notes details to a pop-up or ‘modal’ overlay, similar to the colorbox used for images.
The problem with the current code on that page / tab in particular is that it has grown into a very messy set of mixed div and table HTML tags, all convolutely nested inside one another. Then of course any fix needs to allow for the display of any census year, translated into any language, in any theme, using any screen size including tablets and smartphones (eventually) !!!!
So definitely an important project for a later release I’m afraid.
Happy to hear any ideas you or anyone else may have.

PS – a partial / practical solution for now is to close the sidebar when viewing wide census transcriptions.

Thanks for looking at it Nigel and I hope it wasn’t too much of a waste of time. I’ll lay off the later US censuses for a bit – I’ve plenty of others to do!

I do not even know what all those colons contain!
BP, FBP, MBP, YOI, EmN, VKS
Is it important?
Perhabs putting those in a “drop down” note mark. You know with the plus sign, you click on to open notes and read more

BP = birth place
FBP – fathers birthplace
MBP = mothers birthplace
YOI = year of immigration
EmN = unemployed?
WKS = weeks unemployed during yearThere is a lot of information in the US censuses but some may not be useful …

thank you for sharing that 🙂
Yes thats why I suggest it goes to a note or something! Or a discussion about which part is needed?
My opinion:
WKS not neededWith MBP and FBP either the parent is inside the census and the record is noted there or it could be a note instead!

The “census assistant” exists for the purpose of assisting with a transcription of census documents. The purpose of any transcription is to record EXACTLY what was on the original document, so it would be wrong to start debating adding or removing any details. Plus, I’m sure there would never be any agreement.
If you prefer to simply add a shared note of your own preference of details you should just add an ordinary shared note without using the assistant.
Regarding the titles of each column, when you use the assistant the full title is available if you point to the heading of each column both during data entry and on the final display. They are also available on the original document, which of course anyone doing a transcription will have in front of them.
