Any DIY checks for why page doesn’t load/kicked out when clicking on Family tabs. I’ve tried multiple records and all do the same. Just noticed now as I’ve not had reason to use Family tab for awhile. Was going to add 2nd marriage by joining 2 existing records. Tried from both records.

You might be able to see something happening if you use Firebug or whatever “developer tool” your browser has (usually opened by the F12 key), or looking at the page ‘source’.

You can also try your kiwitrees error logs (administration > logs and filter for ‘error’ type).

There’s also a possibility your web host’s error logs might have a record.

But beyond that it’s impossible to guess without access. Happy to look if you want to give me temporary access and “how to reproduce” steps.

Seems to be a couple of records now, only in Safari. Will make note of the two # and see if others cause problem too. kiwitree error log was empty.

There can be browser issues can you let me have the GEDCOM data for the offending records before you before you change anything so I can run some tests.

Even it turns out to be data issues I’d like to see if we can prevent the happening.

5 CONT Walter Dulany Addison was rector from 1801 to 1809.5 He was notable as an early social activist in a period when this was a highly exceptional activity for Episcopal clergy. He fought vigorously against the practice of dueling, even riding to the White House on one occasion in an attempt to induce President Thomas Jefferson to stop a duel. Failing here, he rode on to the dueling grounds and stopped the proceedings by himself. He publicly opposed slavery and freed those slaves which he had inherited. He also actively assisted the founding of several Episcopal parishes in the District of Columbia, and assisted a congregation of black Methodists to establish a church in the vicinity of Oxon Hill. As a young newly-wed, he lived for a short time in Battersea [Harmony Hall].

5 CONT Walter Dulaney Addison [January 1, 1769 – 1848] was an Episcopal clergyman who served as Chaplain of the United States Senate [1810–1811].

    5 CONT
    5 CONT Early years
5 CONT Walter Dulaney Addison was born at Annapolis, Maryland on January 1, 1769, the son of Thomas Covington Addison and Rebecca Dulaney Addison. Their home was Oxon Hill Manor, overlooking the Potomac River opposite Alexandria, Virginia, where the family lived in great state, driving a coach and four with liveried outriders.[1] Along with Mount Vernon, Belvoir [Crownsville, Maryland] and Carlisle House, it was one of the great mansions of the Colonial era. The Addison Plantation, as it is sometimes called, was a large agricultural plantation. Acquired by John Addison in 1687, the site was the estate of successive generations of the Addison family.[2]
    5 CONT
5 CONT At the age of fifteen, Addison and two of his brothers were sent to England to be educated there under the care of his uncle, Dr. John Boucher. He returned to Maryland in 1789. He studied for the ministry under the direction of Thomas John Claggett and was made deacon in the parish of Saint Peter’s Church, Talbot, on May 26, 1793. Addison was the first rector to be ordained by Bishop Claggett after he became Bishop of Maryland [1793].[3]

    5 CONT Ministry
5 CONT Walter Dulaney Addison was Rector of Queen Anne Parish, Holy Trinity Episcopal Church [Bowie, Maryland], 1793–95.[4]
    5 CONT
5 CONT While there, he established a school at his home, Oxon Hill. In 1799 he became assistant rector and in 1805 he became rector of St. Matthew’s Church [Seat Pleasant, Maryland] also known as Addison Chapel, which had been founded by his ancestor, Col. John Addison. The current Addison Chapel building was erected between 1809 and 1816, under Walter Dulaney Addison’s rectorship.[5]
    5 CONT
5 CONT Addison became the first rector of St. John’s Church in Georgetown, in 1801.[1][6]
    5 CONT
5 CONT He officiated at the funeral of George Washington.[5] In 1810, Addison sold most of the original Oxon Hill property to Zachariah Berry.[7] Addison was appointed as U.S. Senate Chaplain on December 12, 1810.[8]

    5 CONT Personal life
5 CONT Walter Dulaney Addison married Elizabeth Dulaney Hesselius, the daughter of well-known portrait painter John Hesselius and Mary Young, on June 5, 1792 in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Their children include: Lloyd Dulaney Addison.[10] In 1792, Walter Dulaney Addison and his bride leased Battersea House for a year. Elizabeth Addison gave Battersea its new name, Harmony Hall, which it retains to this day.

OK, thanks. Unfortunately there is nothing wrong with that data, and I can’t reproduce the problem. However although I have tested them on Safari, that is the PC version not the Mac version, so the tests are not conclusive. However, I can’t think of any reason the browser would make a difference.

The problem you have is that as it’s the Family tab, if there is a data issue it could be with any member of the family, bot just the primary individual.

It could also be a server issue, though it shouldn’t be.

Can you give me a screen shot of the failed tab, and if possible a text file containing the page source from it (on a PC that means right-click anywhere on the page; select “View page source”, then copy/paste the result to a text file). Hopefully the process is similar for a Mac.

Was playing with GEDitCOM and upon import of my latest GEDCOM file, found a number of “serious” coding errors (caused by me at some point). The date errors I mostly corrected too but others need addressing. These, I believe, don’t cause problems as webTrees either ignores or displays.

All fixed concurrently in GEDitCOM and manually in kiwiTrees. But made me thing that it may have been cause for not getting to family tab (dirty GEDCOM coding). It’s sporadic so will see if it pops up again now that I fixed all the problems.

Can you give some examples of the things GEDitCOM regards as serious errors that kiwtrees allows.

I’m using the term “serious” maybe “obvious” was more appropriate. In any case, while kiwiTrees didn’t go bonkers, .GEDitCOM checks upon importing. Not sure if the error check would have caught them. Because, to me, the errors were so obvious but couldn’t be caught if I had no reason to look at the raw GEDCOM code for the record. Or, more correctly, catch the problem when I was. The date check I did in another offline genealogy application I played with. Lots of 01 SEPT 1900 where it wanted SEP — only a problem in that app as it’s not flexible. I had lots of BETW instead of BET — again, carried over from 2007 import but never caught.

11 CHAN >> the extra 1 caught from tag above; some had Level 3 tags before Level 2 tags; the one I couldn’t figure out was the Adoption one (I had the child adopted by the feather) but as it was only one record and couldn’t remember the other adoptees I had done correctly, just removed the extra tag.

This is just a guess that these contributed to the problem. I’m guessing that I’ll know for sure when you release next upgrade and all kiwiTrees files get replaced. Meaning it was me, not kiwiTrees, as I’m suspecting.

Ah, I thought that GEDitCOM was using the term serious 🙂

01 SEPT 1900 – yes kiwitrees does try hard to interpret what you really meant. Not hard to convert SEPT to SEP. Also, in case you wondered, we don’t physically change the entry, not want ing to assume anything / change things you are not aware of. One day I woulld like to have a way to report on this type of eror though. Perhaps I’ll put it on the “wishlist”[/url].

11 CHAN – Kiwitrees will completely ignore this tag.

Neither of the above would have any impact on the Family tab.

some had Level 3 tags before Level 2 tags; the one I couldn’t figure out was the Adoption one

I haven’t tested this one, but it is possible it could effect things, though more likely to simply ignore the level 3 tag.
