Found some changes on the album tab (1.4.4.1) by chance 😉
So my greatest Christmas wish is a kiwitree version history. Just some headwords to give an overview of changed or added features. I really appreciate the ongoing development and want to keep track of it. For me as an kiwitree admin evey update is an obligation to report my users about recent changes in time. Find myself surprised by a new feature means a lot of preceding confusion for my users 😉
Found some untranslated strings e.g. “Stories and Writing”. I would like to keep on translating, but I didn’t find a approbiate de.po file.
The media type newspaper is currently displayed in the document section. In my point of view it would be better to have that in the Stories and Writing section among with magazines, books and manuscripts.

Ah – someone actually noticed 😉
That was a change requested by a paying-client that I decided at the last minute to throw into the core code.
Attached here is the matrix of media type to album sections.
The logic for placement of Newspaper clippings is that “Stories and Writings” are designed to contain things personally written by the individual. Of course, such decisions could be debated endlessly which I really don’t want to spend time on.
But it is worth remembering that this is the ONLY place the tag “Type” when applied to media objects is used for anything. So that leaves you free to give each media object whatever “type” you wish in order to place it in the gallery section you prefer.Regarding the translation strings, they were missed in this release, but will be in the next. Then you can send updated translation files for them. For now, if it is important, you can put them in your own “custom translation” file.

But you already have it here:
https://github.com/kiwi3685/kiwitrees1.4.4.2/commits/masterAlso, each new version starts with a change to the version number, titled something like “Next version is xxxx”, so you know where one ends and the next starts.

You are the boss. Thanks for the overview Gallery_module.pdf.
(However I do use the tag media type and I have allready many newspaper articles, books etc. NOT written by the individual. So I will try to find a solution on my own, redifening “Stories & Writings” as more neutral “Texts”.)
I promise not to debate! 😛
I know GitHub version tracking, maybe I expressed my thought unclear. Just one or two sentences about user visible changes/new features in your blog posts announcing a new version would be very helpful.

Sure, and sometimes I will remember or have time to do that. But you can pretty well guarantee that from time to time I will miss something, forget one change, or treat something as not important enough (when it is important to you). The point about the Github list is that is guaranteed 100% complete.
So please, don’t rely on my poor, ageing, defective brainNigel

As the new album order doesn’t fit to my existing media, I set up my personal alternative order.
Pictures: Painting, Photo, Tombstone
Documents: Card, Certificate, Document
Census: Electronic, Fiche, Film
Texts: Book, Magazine, Manuscript, Newspaper
Audio & Video: Audio, Video
Others: Coat of Arms, Map, OtherIf anybody wants to use that: Replace modules_v3/lightbox/functions/lightbox_print_media.php with the attached file. (Changed lines 110-154) Please remember that you have to take care of this changed file after every regular webtrees update. And probably you have to put the new section labels in a custom translation file.
Heading for christmas

Thanks, that’s a good approach.
I’ve been wondering about the practicality and benefit of making the groupings configurable by site admins, What do you think?

Would be really great! There are so many possibilities to configure wt/kiwitrees. Why not album sections? In my point of view almost every “customize your module/add-on/plug-in” is better than hard-coded advance decisions. Everyone to his taste. 😀
