I selected a tag in search. There’s no way to set any parameters so no idea how to get the results I expect. I’ve got almost 100 records with AFN containing the letters “html”. If I enter that as search, I get 4 records, none containing those letters.

OK, it seems there are two different issues going on here.
1 – You’ll need to give me the complete raw GEDCOM data for a couple of individuals with the sort of AFN tag your are searching for. Then I can test the search parameters to see if there is an error in the code.
2 – (Possibly) not truly related to your issue, but if you are searching for the text ‘html’ in an AFN record then you are not using the tag correctly. If you don’t give kiwitrees what it expects in any given field, then you can’t always expect it to behave as you want. AFN (Ancestral File Number) is defined by the LDS Church who created it (for their purposes) as follows:
An Ancestral File Number will typically consist of four capital letters or digits followed by a hyphen which in turn is followed by two to three concluding digits or capital letters. An AFN will not contain A, E, I, O, U, or Y (vowels).
Ancestral File Numbers currently have the following format:
AFN: 20V4-RND (example)

Sorry, I forgot that part.
If you get a result in the list then it WILL contain the searched for part. But it may not be visible in the list of individuals as that will only display certain columns (the same ones as any other list of individuals). If you visit that individual and look at his complete details (perhaps even in raw data format) you WILL see your search term.

Oops, forgot something else…
Did you think of trying the new Facts & Events tool from the Resources menu?

Yes, I did misuse AFN, carried over from years ago. I checked the 4 results and while there is alphanumeric text, not “html”. There’s a select group that has that included. I was trying to keep track of numbering convention from two specific sources that relate to two branches.
I just looked at the facts and events (Resources) and it doesn’t have the AFN listed.
But, as you seem to imply, I’m not going to find the letters. I do have them in Reunion so will search there.

No, I didn’t mean to imply that. I need you to provide the information mentioned in my point 1 so I can investigate the issue.

Yikes, I just realized I got ahead of myself!!! I haven’t copied them over to kiwitrees yet <red face>!!
I do have one branch of the family with the tag used. Advance search did find my criteria. Will check further when I move to that branch again.)
