hats off to you kiwi, would never have thought about testing both ways. Most times I do add F&E from quick list. Workaround is no problem.
Thanks. But I can’t claim any credit for finding it. @pab and @grebjiem were able to point out the difference, and run some other tests for me.
I think I have now coded the fix(s) for this. Hopefully I can add a package of the changed files in a day or so.

The fix for is now available, attached to this post.
It required changes to 5 files, so to simplify the update I have placed them in the zip package in their correct sub-folder hierarchy. It “should” mean that you can simply copy the entire zip contents to the root folder of your kiwitrees installation in a single upload.
Just take a little care if you have kiwitrees in a sub-folder of your site. This fix is for the issue addressed by this post (facts & events not automatically updating) plus the much older issue in this post: Problem adding media objects[/url]
This is a complex issue, so entirely possible that I have missed some less commonly used occurrences. So don’t hesitate to come back to this bug report if you find any problems that match the issues discussed here that still remain for you.
Fixes for kiwitrees.net hosted clients are being uploaded automatically today.

Similar problem when linking a person to an existing media object, the page does not close.

There are a few ways to link individuals (and other records) to a media item and the reverse.
I have assumed your issue relates to the link at the top of the “Album” tab on an individual page. I think the attached file will fix that. The file, attached here in a zip folder is inverselink.php. It replaces the existing file in the kiwitrees root folder.
Let me know if this fixes it, or if you are referring to a different use-case and I’ll look again.

Thanks. As I suspected the process you have used is different.
I might be able to close the edit window, but are you expecting it to return to the individual you started at, or the one you are adding the link to?
The first is hard. The second is impossible 🙁

Try the attached replacement file.
It goes in kiwitrees\modules_v4\album\album_print_media.php
