This is an interesting issue. In the code the use of abbreviated place names is linked to another question – “is the display of the place name a link to the place hierarchy page for that place” (i.e. an “anchor”) In usage where the place name is NOT an anchor, then the abbreviated place name is used. Where it is an anchor it is not.
It is important to remember that the same code to display place names is used everywhere in the system. It would be very inefficient not to.

At present the display of charts is to let place names be an anchor in the “full view” (tick “show details” on the chart page), but not an anchor on the compact view (untick “show details”).

The alternative, and the way the chart displays originally worked (and still do on webtrees) is to change charts so that places (and dates actually) are never used as anchors – so can never be clicked on to go to that full place or date list list.

Any preferences?

In some charts I can’t see the difference between show details ticked or unticked.

You are correct. There is another factor I had forgotten, and I must research the reason’s for it.

Try viewing the same links without being logged in. Then you will see what I was referring to. Just now I can’t recall the logic we used when it was set that visitors and members would have a different result.

I would also like to get some feedback form more people about what everyone would prefer to happen. Nothing has to be fixed, though there will always be practical constraints.
